The profile, the vision, the objectives

SERMAG is an Italian company founded in 2003 with the aim of producing polyolefin and elastomeric compounds with recycled raw materials with a strong technical and innovative content, designed and developed according with the idea of circular economy.

To achieve this goal, SERMAG has created an industrial network with three Italian companies with which it has shared not only the production phase but has also jointly developed an analysis and research activity.

SERMAG has managed to establish itself with authority in the field of recycled plastic materials thanks to the great experience in the field accumulated over the years and the scrupulous attention dedicated to every phase of product processing, from design to construction.

In 2018 the Italian brand RINNO-V-ENE was born with the aim of producing high-performance polyolefin mixtures obtained according to specific formulations owned by SERMAG.

In 2019 and 2020 the European brands RIPLASTENE, RILETILENE, RIMAGLENE, BYSERPLENE were registered, specific for different polymer families and also compatible with the reference UNI standards (UNI 10667) in the field of recycled plastics and by-products.

PCRPOMIX, PIRPOMIX, POMIXOIL and STIRPOMIX are the latest brands born in 2021, dedicated to polyolefin compounds.

SERMAG's brands

SERMAG manufactures products based on polyolefins and thermoplastic elastomers, studied and perfected over the years to meet the needs of different industrial sectors, but united by the need to use resistant, quality, high-performance and eco-sustainable plastics.

The products have technical specifications and properties that have nothing to envy to the corresponding virgin raw materials, thus constituting an excellent, more sustainable and economical alternative.

Analysis and quality check

The modern laboratory, shared with the Sermag network, and equipped with the most modern instruments available on the market (IR and XRF spectrophotometer, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), gas chromatograph), allows SERMAG to carry out continuous monitoring on each lot of product , in order to ensure precise compliance with the pre-established production standards.

The constant checks that are carried out on all phases of the production process and the advanced technologies for the treatment of materials, allow the products of all brands to reach and satisfy the high quality standards required by the customers and technical-regulatory ones, required by the laws and regulations in force.

The certificates of analysis performed on each lot treated, allow customers to have a complete and detailed overview of the physical and mechanical properties and a guarantee on the quality of the materials.
All the materials in the RIPLASTENE, RILETILENE, RIMAGLENE, RINNO-V-ENE, BYSERPLENE, PCRPOMIX, PIRPOMIX, POMIXOIL and STIRPOMIX range are also tested and guaranteed to comply with the European REACH and RoHS regulations.

Post Consumer Recycling, not waste but resource

Sermag’s commitment in the field of the circular economy is also manifested in the distribution of secondary raw materials with 100% PCR waste origin (post consumer recycling), that is, according to the ISO 14021 standard, plastic waste produced by the end user, people, families, activities and businesses, normally destined for landfill.

Sermag started developing PCR compounds focusing on polypropylene and high and low density polyethylene, for compounds and molding. These products have obtained the certification from CSI IMQ Group and comply with the European regulations REACH and RoHS.

The careful processing of the waste, which is also traced in every movement and treatment, allows to obtain a secondary raw material that is 100% recycled and that can be reintroduced directly into the market, with mechanical properties and physico-chemical characteristics of all respect if compared with equivalent virgin materials.

Sermag is investing heavily in these eco-sustainable products, which really are able to give new life to waste and greatly reduce the environmental impact due to the production of virgin plastic.

TPE-O, the flagship of SERMAG

In patent matters and considering a view to circular economy, SERMAG constantly studies and experiments mixed-compound with a high content of recycled polymer to improve their technical and performance characteristics and make them an alternative to virgin raw material.

A tangible example of this work is the compound TPE-O, patented at European level, a mixture of polyolefins and atactic copolymer polypropylene specially designed for the modification of bitumens for the production of bituminous membranes.

TPE-O is available in the form of granules and according to the user’s needs, it is produced in various grades by modifying the characteristic parameters such as density, Melt Flow Rate, viscosity, “ring and ball” and cold flexibility.

This compound manages to combine environmental sustainability, being the product with a percentage of more than 70% of recycled material, performance and flexibility of use thanks to the great study carried out in the design phase and the feedback provided by customers who use it successfully.

Sustainability according to SERMAG

SERMAG has focused its strategic vision on the circular economy, immediately focusing on the eco-sustainability of its products and processes.

SERMAG almost exclusively uses recycled polymers, intended as secondary raw materials, and plastics from by-products, trying to minimize the use of virgin plastics. The ennobling use of regenerated materials and by-products allows less exploitation of non-renewable resources and allows for a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions during the production cycle.

The commitment to respect a green and sustainable company policy is also supported by SERMAG customers who consciously choose regenerated products, preferring them to virgin raw materials.

Certifications

In order to guarantee total transparency to customers, SERMAG has obtained authoritative certifications for its products and processes.

So far SERMAG has requested and obtained 15 certifications from CSI IMQ Group, regarding the traceability of materials, the compliance with the reference UNI 10667 standards, the origin of the regenerated materials (PIR or PCR) and the percentage of recycled content in each product.

The most important is “Recycled Plastic – Traceability of Materials“, which certifies the application of the tracking system for incoming and outgoing materials. This allows to know and always trace the history of each batch of material and reconstruct the movements and treatments it has undergone in the regeneration process.

In 2021 SERMAG obtained the KIWA Covenant, European certification that concerns the Secondary Raw Materials produced by EuCertPlast certified plants, from which SERMAG procures, which declares the origin and the minimum content of 99% of recycled plastic.

For SERMAG it is a source of pride to be able to certify its products and therefore to be able to sell them guaranteeing the highest standards of quality and safety.

Research and development

SERMAG is one of the leaders in Italy in the development, production and sale of polymers and elastomers composed of secondary raw materials and by-products. The continuous development of new blends of polymers and elastomers, allows to always have a solution available for every type of application and request from the customer.

SERMAG compounds can also be manufactured according to specifications dictated by the customer, thus creating customized mixtures to meet the most particular needs and obtaining a completely tailor-made final product.

This feature makes SERMAG a unique company of its kind, capable, thanks to its corporate network, of transforming and adapting recycled materials to a wide range of applications from construction, to packaging, to the automotive sector.
